24 May 33rd Annual George Washington Carver Science Fair
For the past 3 years, the SEA has participated in the George Washington Carver science fair, and each year we have placed and won awards. This year was no different. Our sixth grade student Ahmed Muhaimin’s project entitled “ Digestion: Breaking it Down” received third place in the 6th grade Life Sciences category. His project also received the special Math and Science Partnership award. He investigated the effect of pH on protein, fat, starch and sugar. Fifth graders, Aasiyah Abdul-Hayy and Ishaq Abdusshaheed received 3rd place in the Environmental Sciences Category for their project entitled, “Filtration Station”. Using carbon, gravel and sand they constructed filters to determine which combination of natural products purified water the best. We are proud of our young scientists and encourage our rising 4th and 5th graders to participate next year.
