24 May What We Are Doing…
We have had a wonderful year of exploration, discovery and fun! So far, we have studied earth sciences and physical sciences. During the spring session, we will learn more about our environment. Think about environmental questions and observations with the children as they explore the world around them.
The school district recommends that children learn about and understand life cycles of various plants, animals and insects; and study relationships in ecosystems that show the connection of an organism to its environment. In alignment with these recommendations, we will focus on environmental sciences.
Our 2nd graders will explore the life cycles of mealworms, butterflies and moths. The 3rd grade students will learn about germination, plant structure and the carbon-oxygen cycle. The 4thgraders will compare internal systems of insects, fish, amphibians and animals. Our 5th graders will use chemistry to understand the properties of soil and composting. Our culminating activity will involve looking at habitat in our annual trip to Cobbs Creek Park.
